Stanton Selby served the community of Pomona enthusiastically and energetically throughout his residence.  After graduating from San Jose State College and the University of Southern California with degrees in music he joined the faculty of Mt. San Antonio College.  Founding the Pomona Concert Band in 1947 he served as its Conductor for 57 years until his death in 2004.

He also served the City Pomona as Councilman and Mayor, and Chair of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.  In addition, he left the band with a collection of his original compositions and arrangements.

Pomona Concert Band Outstanding high school instrumentalists are invited for membership in the Pomona Conert Band.  Reading and performing a wide repertoire under skilled leadership promotes their musical growth as well as supplementing the band's membership.  PCB appreciates the support of the Pomona Unified School District in this aspect of our program.

David Schaafsma, PCB tubist, attended California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, from 1971-76 and California State University Long Beach from 1977-78.  He is currently the Musical Director of the Long Beach Junior Concert Band, where he previously served as assistant director from 1976-1982.  He also founded and directed the Sound Machine of the Inland Empire Youth Band based in Upland and Chino from 1984-1999.
